Following the deluge on 9 November 2016, the Sandspruit burst its banks in many places.
The newspapers were full this morning with powerful pictures illustrating the impressive power of mother nature.
Our section of the Sandspruit got it's fair share of flooding too, however damage was fairly minimal considering the scale of the flood. We lost two large trees - both invasive alien White Locust trees - and a few newly planted irises (Dietes grandiflora), Agapanthus and other smaller plants.
This morning I went out to inspect the damage and ended up returning 32 stranded barbel back into the river. These remarkable fish had been out of water for well over 6 hours by the time they were rescued, yet all but the smallest swam off as though nothing had happened.
The sheer force of the river has created entirely new beaches in places and completely washed away a number of enourmous trees. Unfortunately a number of large branches have also been deposited and will need to be removed.
All that's left to do now is brace yourselves... there's more to come this week! Click on the gallery pictures below for more...
